Who We Are
The BC Bottle and Recycling Depot Association (BCBRDA) was incorporated as a society on January 6th ,1997 by Bottle Depot Owners to represent the best interests of its members.
The BCBRDA is governed by a Board of 12 Directors from across B.C consisting of 6 Regional Directors, 5 At Large Directors including the Past Chair and an Associate Membership Director.
Elections for Directors are held at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in the fall of each year. The Chair, Chair-Elect and Secretary Treasurer are elected by the Board of Directors at the first Board meeting following the AGM. The Board of Directors meets a minimum of 4 times per year to attend to the business of the association.
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and acts as liaison with government, industry and the public and is responsible for communications with BCBRDA members.
Mission Statement
The Mission of the BC Bottle and Recycling Depot Association is to advance the best interests of its members and promote sustainable recycling programs that support a healthy environment and benefit the public and our communities.
What We Do
The BCBRDA supports its members by offering a forum in which individually owned and operated recycling depots and other stakeholders can come together to address important industry issues.
We do this by facilitating communication between depots through networking opportunities, taskforces, webinars, newsletters, ongoing notices and our Annual General Meeting and Conference.
We also recognize individuals or organizations that have made an impact on the environment through recycling by bestowing and annual Terry Biggar Award.
About the Terry Biggar Award
Each year at our Annual General Meeting the Terry Biggar Award is presented. This annual Environmental Award in Terry Biggar’s name is bestowed to a person/persons or organisation that have made an environmental contribution and is awarded on the following criteria:
- What contribution was made?
- How was the contribution made?
- Is this something that will continue to have positive impact on the environment or a one-time contribution?
- Is it a company or individual contribution?
- When was the contribution made?
The Board of directors will choose each year who the recipient will be from nominations received the members of the Association.
